A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.
I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.
For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.

Way across the line, and way past parallel too, Mr. Daly.

Re: Standing Straighter Up Cause No Slice for Driver?
The thing that causes a slice is just an open club face. A really bad slice happens when the club is also on a bad plane and the face is wide open causing you to go way ob to the right. Basically all you need to think about is keeping that face shut. The most common type of slice cause is your hips flying open which causes the club to be behind your body and you never get the face shut.
just trying to help out

Two things - separate things - cause a slice.Originally posted by gatorguy146 View PostThe thing that causes a slice is just an open club face.
1) Open club face at impact
2) Face at impact square but moving across the ball from right to left
Many golfers have some combination of both

Your shaft is going past parallel to the ground (Ã la John Daly). Some might say that's bad. Some might say "do it if you can control it".
I say I don't know enough to properly advise. You might try working to keep it from going past parallel and see if you don't also stop going across the line.

Re: Standing Straighter Up Cause No Slice for Driver?
For me the thing I need to concentrate on to hit a draw is the takeaway and to make sure that the initial takeawy is to the inside.
Also, a person needs to remember that if you leave the club sqaure to the target and aim your body more left the ball goes right. I do notice in your still pics above that it appears that your front foot is back a couple inches which could cause a fade. That and given that your club is going past parrellel it is possible that if your hands do not catch up in time it might cause you to push the ball right and with the fade spin cause a ugly slice.
I would suggest trying to move you front foot a inch or two towards the ball (leaving the back foot where it is) and concentrate on taking the club back on the line of your feet. (which will be towards the inside) This should cause a draw spin, after hitting a few then level your feet.
That is my 1 cent unprofessional analysis.

That and when aiming left you really need to be careful that your club head is also aimed left as well, which is hard to do sometimes. Because like I said above aiming your body left without changing the clubhead in reality just opens up the club in purportion to your body and causes more slice spin. The standing straighter may have just corrected the above temporarily.
Like I said above I would go to the range and hit a few where your body is aimed right and the clubhead remains aimed at the target and see what happens.

Re: Standing Straighter Up Cause No Slice for Driver?
thank you very much for your input...today i hit the ball in the center of my stance and it let me get more contact becuase of my hands going too far back...so im going to try to barely shorten my backswing...put my left foot a little further up and maybe my right foot slightly back(after i try putting my left foot a bit forward...and i have been working a lot on a straighter takeaway.......now if i want to hit a draw...should i be putting my left foot even farther forward towards the ball to aim right ...then hitting the ball inside to out?

Re: Standing Straighter Up Cause No Slice for Driver?
Most of the golfing books I have read, indicate the ball should be just inside or at most 1 inch inside your left heal not the middle of your stance, that a lot of them indicate moving the front foot at most an inch or 2 at most towards the ball to hit a draw, making sure the take away is along the lines of your feet and the clubhead is facing the target it should result in a draw spin. Now to get the feel of a proper take away you might want to exagerate that but I do not think I would want to have the front foot any closer then 1 inch maybe 2 and would not want to be moving both feet which could result in a distance of 4 inches or so.Originally posted by xiggy View Postthank you very much for your input...today i hit the ball in the center of my stance and it let me get more contact becuase of my hands going too far back...so im going to try to barely shorten my backswing...put my left foot a little further up and maybe my right foot slightly back(after i try putting my left foot a bit forward...and i have been working a lot on a straighter takeaway.......now if i want to hit a draw...should i be putting my left foot even farther forward towards the ball to aim right ...then hitting the ball inside to out?
But yes, such a inside swing path will result in a draw just do not go over board. The other thing the above does is closes the club head in relation to your body which also promotes a draw.
Also a straighter takeaway is hard to feel, my advice is to keep moving your takeaway and swing a little bit to the inside until you lose you slice and have the desired ball flight.
For years I always felt I needed to bring the club away very low and long and straight back, after I finally changed the feel of my takeaway to keeping the triangle of my body and arms for as long as possible and to the inside I was amazed at the change in ball flight and distance that I have gained. Now I am not sure what I am actually doing, but those are my swing thoughts with the driver.

tahnks verrrry much man...and yes right now i am doing the stupid (low and long takeaway) so maybe i just try to keep my triangle like you said for longer and pull it more inside...thanks i got to hit the range this afternoon and see what i can do

Re: Standing Straighter Up Cause No Slice for Driver?
I am not sure the low long take away is wrong, but I am guessing that what I thought I was doing was not what I was actually doing. I think that what a thought was the proper takeaway was way to much outside. Causing a outside in swing path. Once I brought it more inside and not worried about keeping the clubhead low, not only ball flight but distance improved.
Let me know if it helps.

Re: Standing Straighter Up Cause No Slice for Driver?
well yeh i almost know for sure that when im swinging backwards it is going outside...and i experimented a lot when i was hitting correct...the lower i had the club for longer made me hit much further...i probably wont be able to hit the range today but i will just hop on a hole at about 7 and hit quite a few balls to see what happens
and thanks for helping me sooo much man!

Re: Standing Straighter Up Cause No Slice for Driver?
ok thats it i give up...everything i tried not single thing worked...nothing close to a draw..even just swinging with an extremely closed clubface would create a slice...i hit ONE! straight...and the rest just got worse...im tired of my unworthy driver i will not use it or my fairway driver (same problem) for about 2 weeks..and then after that im going to see the pro about some lessons!
