    Re: Question about hip turn

One reason the drop the right foot back a little, it gets the right hip out of the way to free up the backswing. Flaring the right foot out adds to that formula.
    IMHO.
Good round from the tips today, 26 putts and 100% up and downs.

I agree with Tim, whatever it takes to firm up the right knee. This is a major problem with people with duck feet and it is just like Oldwease explain.

Many ways, but whatever it takes to firm up the right side or left side.

If I handed you 2 range buckets, one in each hand, the arms hanging straight down beside you. You should be able to turn the back hip around to hand the bucket off to someone that is standing behind you w/o moving the hand or arm, only by turning the hip back and the same action in the forward swing. The turn of the front hip to hand the bucket off.

If I hand you a basketball to hold between each hand, you should be able to turn the body to hand the basketball off and then we allow the basketball to come up and around.

In the downswing the basketball must come down, then around so we can hand the basketball off on the front side and then the basketball comes upward.

If people would think about having a little ball between their hands and keep the hands turning around as a unit versus trying to shove the hands too far to the inside, then they would play better.

You may want the hands to come straight back a few inches and then we are finished with the hands, the shoulders take over allowing the hands to come to the inside and up and a firm right side allows us to whip the shoulders around in the downswing which forces the arms, hands, wrist and club to move faster.

When I 1st learn the game, it was with a basketball.

I would hold the ball between the palms, bring the ball straight back to the right leg and allow the shoulders to turn around into the backswing.

At the top of the backswing if I try to throw the ball out, I was out of balance. So I dropped the ball down a little and rotated around.

Then I took the driver and tried to feel the same as having a basketball between the palms.

The rest was to have a firm lower body to whip the upper body around.

The baseball picther. He winds up in the backswing, the right hand is above the right shoulder and he can not throw the ball out to the right, he can not toss the ball level, so he throws down feeling the right elbow coming in to the side. The right shoulder lowers.

The baseball picther does not pick the right hand up to throw the ball, he rotates around feeling the right elbow and right hand. They are connected and will move inwards and outwards together.

Some of you got headcovers on this side and that side of the ball, Why? You do not understand the hand, elbow relationship. I f one come out the other comes out, if one comes in the other comes in.

Grab your driver and go out in the yard, put your left hand on very light, you may even want to spread the right hand out away from the left a little, feel the right handed picture winding up in the back swing and feel the picther throwing the ball down in the downswing.

Feel what happens when you allow the right knee to come over the right foot and try to throw down.

Now firm up the right knee so you do not sway.

In golf, all we need to do is firm up the right side for the right hander, turn to waist high like handing a football or basketball off, winding up like the baseball picther and throwing the ball/clubhead to home plate. That's All.

      Kicking the ball:

Any ball, we firm up the left side, spin around from the right and then re-spin around to kick a ball, in golf we need the same action.

Turn your back to the target fully and try to make a lateral move and you will fall over backwards, the same as kicking a ball, using a baseball bat or golf club.

When kicking the ball we can not fully turn the back around and make a lateral slide, you will end up on your butt.

Exception to the forward slide: if you make the little right hip bump backwards you will feel a little lateral slide in the downswing, about an inch before the hips go into rotation. If you bump the front hip out to the target at address, about the inch, in the downswing, your hips should go into rotation.

Right hip back at address, think more of a 2 palne upright swing or you could find yourself falling off to the side in a 1 Plane Swing in the backswing.

Easy game if we do not try to make too much out of it.
      Thanks C Mays

      Excellent post.
