    Re: Is my distance ok??

For a 14-year-old that's great. Well, I guess it also depends on how tall you are and how much mass you've got on too.

      Hi Ricky,

I would definitely not worry about your distance - that is very good for your age. I know men that barely hit that far. Fred Funk's average driving distance to win TPC at Sawgrass was only 261. Worry about building a repeatable swing that is deadly accurate. The distance will come as you get taller, stronger and as your swing developes. It's accuracy that will knocks strokes off your card, not distance.

Give it a couple of years Ricky see how your distances are when you fill out a bit. If you are still a little behind then think about swing changes but its too early to tell just now.

Rick..................compare us.....its great........i wish i would have focussed accuracy earlier in my career........but no.........i wanted to be a bomber.........i have a lot less control than i should and we shoot close to the same you might even edge me a little bit.........my long game is rough..especially accuracy.........my short game is lush.....i easily have the best short game on my team........its just gettin it close!!!

Rick, these guys don't know what they're talking about - these distances are brutal.

You need to abandon all training, and just focus on getting as MUCH DISTANCE AS POSSIBLE.

And if you believe the above post, I've got some land in Florida to sell you.

Rick - your distances are fine. Focus on your scoring game (chips, pitches and putts).

              Ricky:

I agree with gord. I am in my mid 20's, i began playing golf when was around 14. I too had to the same problem with distance at your age. Whatever you do don't try and "big boy" in front of your friends, by that i mean don't try to see how hard or far you can hit the ball. Scoring comes from the short game and accuracy. Distance will come with time, just be patient.

Ricky, did you beat your 18 handicap friend? I assume you did and it was because you hit straighter and are more consistant (you don't make many bad shots). Accuracy and a good short game is where you take strokes off your scorecard. If you have a great short game and can hit 12/14 fairways and 15 GIR, you will beat most everyone you will come up against.

Ricky imagine how single figure handicap players feel when playing next to me. If you are worried about your friend with a bigger handicap out hitting you. I am playing on an 18 handicap and hit just as good as any single figure handicap player. hehehe get to the green and add at least 3 more shots to my score.

                        Re: Is my distance ok??

Ricky thats basically the exact same distance that i hit at 14/15, i thought i'd never gain distance (got very fustrated at 15) but listened to my pro and just worked on my swing. since early 17 i have grown from 5'6 to 5'11.

Without doing any gym work i've gone from 150 yard 5 iron at 14 to 180 yard now.

'Just get a repeatable swing, distance comes later' - my pros quote.

Yep ricky u just need to work on your touch and finesse. It doesn't matter if they get green in 2 and u get in 3 if u get up and down and they 3 putt!

I cant understand this obsession with length. Why does Tiger miss so many fairways?Every person has a rythm or tempo which is natural to them, find it and stick with it. Concentrate on improving the quality of your strike, length must surely come.

i turned 16 this year and my distance is exactly the same like yours rick.. i go to the range everyday and practice hitting around 300 balls just so i could improve my distance.. but it doesnt seem to get any better!! i had lessons with my coach and continued to pracice drills and work on my swing..

what really made me quite frustrated was my cousin who is only 17 and is a one handicaper!! he can hit the ball miles further than me!! And when he was my age, he was far better than me... i hope u guyz are rite about distance will come with age as i really really need it!!
