Largest face driver I've ever seen. The old version had holes going through it for that decreased wind resistance. A guy at my club was all excited about it and wanted me to try it.

Quick review:

525cc face at least. Shaped like, you guessed it a hammer. Ultra whippy shaft. A lost a whopping 78-88 yards with it.

A total waste of money - want a great COR head that doesn't look like a pregnant Volkswagon, get an Ashton X-1.

The new open body Hammer-X driver I got has actually added distance to my drives, and the real surprise was how much straighter I'm hitting the ball with it. I do not think it is the same as the club specified here. It must be a much newer version. It has this flat shaft and I think it really makes a difference. My slice is 90% gone (10% mis-hits).

I was very doubtful also until I put the POW-BOOM-BAM aside and gave it a try.

For $99 with the free hybrid (which I really like) I thought "What the heck". If you're like me and my buddies, we spend more on beer. It has definitely been worth it!

I saw a guy using one on the driving range. It went pretty straight for him, but distance was poor. I hit his a few times, and saw nothing remotely like the infomercial claims. He hit my Tour Edge GeoMax driver, and found about 30 more yards. There is a buyer born everyday, for any product that claims to be better. Golf products are no different. The term "Caveat Emptor" is a term that fit's quite well in the golf business. GJS

Are you sure you saw this new Hammer-X? It has an open body design and a huge face. I have not seen an infomercial on TV about it yet. I found it on the xfactordirect.com website, and when I called their 888 number the guy from the TV show actually talked to me about it. I am hitting it further and straighter than my Callaway (with a round shaft).

You know, GJS, I also have some doubts.

I guess the flat shaft is presumably to cut down on wind resistance. However, that geometry would decrease the flex and frequency of the shaft. Also, if you swung it slightly off plane, it would act like an airplane wing in a turn, and "stall" the forward motion. Also, how is that flat shaft constructed... are the filaments stacked?

I don't know about all of that... I'm just a guy that wants to shave a couple of strokes and this club seems to help. Also no more irritating "ting" sound. Why not call the guy and ask him? He really talked to me on his 888-55- LONG number! I was shocked.

This is actually the first positive review I've ever seen of the Hammer (suspisiously positive, but I'll leave it at that.) The general concensus is it is a POC (piece of c***). Heavy, no added distance, cracked faces, broken shafts, etc...

For me, the bottom line on something like this is:

1. It is NOT conforming (neither the head or the shaft.) I wouldn't get much satisfaction driving longer if I new I was cheating to do it.

2. Golf equipment is a pretty competitive industry. It there really was some miracle breakthrough here (materials, shape, etc...) you'd be seeing variations of it show up in other clubmaker's lines (but you're not.)

Bottom line, it's a safer bet to stick with a known manufacuter producing legal clubs.

FYI

I have seen reports that some people are reporting a SLIGHT swing speed increase with the Adam's speedline clubs (which are hyping a more aerodynamic shape.) 2-3 mph swing speed would translate to an additonal 5-8 drive yards. If you looking for a club to add distance I think I would look in that direction rather than buying an illeal Hammer.

The flat shaft is non-conforming (as in illegal, as in will get you disqualified from any local tournaments, as in you will lose every golf bet you ever make because you are cheating.) Shafts have to flex the same in every direction to be legal (and they can only do that if they are round.)
