Re: Putting stats
I'm almost certain that at one point this site had a putting drill, but I can't seem to find it now.
It was something like using tees to mark the length of your backswing and using only the length of the backswing to control the distance.
You were to put a tee something like 3 inches behind the ball, and then another tee 2" further back and yet another 2 more inches back. Then swing the putter back to the level of the first tee and 'let it drop', then the second tee and then the third tee and take notice of the distance the ball rolls - let's say 3 feet, 5 feet and 7 feet just as an example.
You should be able to get the same distances by swinging the putter back to the same level over and over again (within quite small margins).
If you can get used to 3-4-5 different lengths of backswing and the gap between the distances of the roll of the ball, then 'all you need to do' (yeah, right!) is to drop by the practice green before every round to get a good feel of the speed of the greens on that day, and mentally adapt the distances.
So if on practice day, you get 3', 5' and 7' consistently, and on match day you get 2', 3½' and 5', then you'll know that to get 7' out on the course, you need to pull back to somewhere 'between the 4th and 5th (virtual) tee'.
Do that, and you won't miss by more than a few inches.
I'm really sorry if the above sounds confusing, and I wish I could find that drill so you could read the correct explanation. I really took the number of 3 putts down for me (Now all I need is to stop pushing the ball right - *sigh*).
