Re: Most Embarrissing Things on a Golf Course

I've just being looking at this old thread, we had a real good laugh looking at everyones imput.

Perhaps we could continue this thread with some more updated funnies.

We were playing golf last week when a guy on his own played through, we asked him to join us but he declined. He smashed his drive 300+ up the middle of the fairway, he then walked up shanked a long iron under a bush, on both knees he scambled the ball back to the fairway with a fantastic shot, shanked the next, then put the ball 2 feet from the pin with an 8 iron. your not going to believe this he four putted.
On catching him up on the next tee box I enquired about the 300+ drive, great recovery and the magnificant iron shot, along with the shanks and poor putting.
He replied " I did not want to join you because I'm practicing for the mixed foresomes next week".

Sorry Ladies it's only a joke.

      Ok,

10th hole just went out in 37, 1 over par. Tees it up, BOOM, big hook over the fence out of bounds. Tees another one up, BOOM, same place, then another then another. So playing 9 off the tee, hooks another one but this time it finishes just short of the fence (ie about 6 inches short) flicks it out a bout 30 yards left handed. Hits the next one into the left hand green bunker. Takes the sand iron out (hitting my 12th shot now) and almost gets it out the bunker. Almost. The ball trundles back in right into the hole I just dug. Two more swipes and then I manage to blast it into the bunker at the other side of the green. So I'm there in 15, my first shot out of the new bunker is pretty difficult right up against the back of the lip. I manage to get into the middle of the bunker and splash out to about 15 feet. Then I hole the putt!!! For a crowd pleasing 18!!!!

On the bright side I went out in the afternoon and shot 73, 2 over par.

      D.

Playing a matchplay sitting even, 16th hole par 5, dogleg right. I was playing my natural fade and I ended up pulling the ball left, ending up in the waist high grass. It took 4 strokes to get it out and ended up with a 9. Next hole, 2 down and 2 to go on a par 3 over water with a rollercoaster green. Other guy hit the water and I hit the green, although 35 feet from the hole. He dropped and pitched within 4 feet, where he sank his putt. I managed to 4 putt to lose the match 2-1.

          How about this?

Stood at the first tee of the West Course at Wentworth. My brother takes his driver and toes it left at some rate and the ball files past the feet of Berhard Gallagher who was the Ryder Cup captain at the time.

We had a good laugh about it in the 19th.!!

Re: Most Embarrissing Things on a Golf Course

Last weekend a group of guys were in front of our group and they were slow to say the least - they were all over the place. My fellow playing partners were getting anoyed and asked to be called through. Well it came to the tenth in front of the clubhouse and they decided to let us play through. Guess what all of us in my group hit duff tee shots, with two of us having to hit provisional balls. I never want to be called through again

Re: Most Embarrissing Things on a Golf Course

I have got have had the most embarrasing thing EVER! I felt like burying myself and never coming up.

I was playing in a charity day and afterwards I did a short game session. Someone asked me how to play a bunker shot from a pot bunker. So, I put the ball in the pot bunker, making sure I get a good lie to help me. I go on for a while about technique ... opening the club face, about accelerating ... blah ... blah ... blah ... I address the ball and take a swing , accelerate into impact and FRESH IT! I didn't even make contact!!!!

I almost %*#$!#@ died on the spot! Everyone killed themselves laughing!!! Talk about feeling like an a$%hole...

It happens to the best of us!

Re: Most Embarrissing Things on a Golf Course

I was once playing at Bury golf club in the north of England. I was left with short pitch over a bunker and onto a tight pin. Anyway, i thinned the shot , it went speeding throught the green, through a hedge and into somebody's back garden. I watched in horror as it slammed into a french window , but was totally relieved that it didn't break. All i could do was hold my hand up in appology to a rather bemused couple who were having lunch in their garden.. I was rather annoyed that they didn't throw back my ball.....

Re: Most Embarrissing Things on a Golf Course

Myself and my golfing friends were talking about two hilarious incidents we had witnessed at our course over the previous twenty years. Two of these "absolutely true" incidents bear repeating.

The greens superintendant at the course was an older fellow that was afflicted with "narcolepsy". He would nod off while eating lunch, in the middle of a conversation, etc. During our finals in the city tournament, he was riding around viewing the action and making sure there were no issues with the course. He had a "nod off" while driving his car and plunged it into the Fox River. The river was shallow enough in the area that other than wet clothes and a very muddy golf cart, he survived and we all had a good laugh.

The second story involved one of our golfing buddies. Jim was a good friend but he was an alcoholic. He drank until he passed out many a time.
One day he came speeding into the course parking lot. He was in a big hurry. In the pro shop he asked the assistant pro if he was late for his tee time. The assistant had a big grin on his face. Jim had shown up at 6 in the evening. His tee time was for 6 the following morning. Evidentally he had drunk a little too much, taken a "nap", awoken and had no idea what time of the day and or what day it was. We laugh about that one alot. Jim is no longer with us. The alcohol abuse finally did him in.

Must say I enjoyed reading this until it brought back a memory.

Walking towards the green in order to play a nice little pitch for an up and down - well that's I was visualising - when i realised that a very attractive lady (accompanied by an equally attractive friend) wanted to play back from close by to their fairway. After a few mutual after you, no after yous they insisted that ("as the better player") I should go first so that they didn't hold me up.

You can see the thinned shot straight across the green already I guess

Re: Most Embarrissing Things on a Golf Course

This was about 10 years ago. One of my playing partners topped his tee shot on the first hole and it went about 10 yards in front of us. He ran up there to grab it while one of the other guys was teeing off. He bent down, the other one hit it. The first guy was wearing basketball shorts and the ball stuck right in his crack.

I still start crying laughing so hard now.

Re: Most Embarrissing Things on a Golf Course

Yesterday I hit a drive on the 18th up to the 17th tee box. Its usually a good place to hit because the hole opens up dramatically. A foursome gets done on the 17th and comes over to tee off and I get ready to hit my second shot. Slight downhill lie, 230 yards to the green and I hit my driving iron. The only thing between me and the green is a small fence made up of three rails about 10 yards in front of me. Everybody on the tee quiets down, my playing partner is right next to me and I hit. Perfect shot, right on the screws and right into the middle of the top post of the fence. I didn't see the ball come by my head but I heard it and I scattered everybody on the tee. The ball actually landed about 40 yards behind me and I left a major dent in the post.

Playing the seventeenth at my local course with a mate who's an absolute duffer. Took him five shots to reach the green , my second shot ends up in the sand 20ft short and I then take six attempts . Still in the sand ,my seventh hits the ball up but hits it again and knocks it clean over the green. Chip and three putt for a fourteen. Could'nt wait to get to the nineteenth

One time, I pulled a Driver off a tree about 30 yards in front of me, the ball rebounded off of the tree and ended up in my hand before it hit the ground. I simply reteed it!

It was my first time playing golf with a new friend. I had cockily accepted his bet on the game. On the first tee, I completely toed my driver directly right into the parking lot line-driving it into someone's hubcap with a resounding clang! Didn't have much trouble keeping my head down for a while. Ane yes, I lost the bet too!

Picture a beautiful course in country New South Wales (Oz), Stride up to the 1st tee through the gate of the fence that protects the club house, forget to shut the gate. Take out the big dog and smack it straight into a 300yo gum tree on the left watch in horror as it comes flying straight back at you, take evasive action and dive out of the way, only to see it fly through the gate I forgot to shut, bounce across the roadway and roll straight through the door of the clubhouse. Do you reckon my partner would give me a drop from inside, I was tempted just to stay at the bar with the sensible folk
