My 8 iron is my club of choice when I have to chip... however I recently took a lesson from a pro who suggested using anything from a 5i to a 9i depending on distance alone. His process is to use the exact same swing no matter which club you have in your hand. Use the 5i for chips that have to cross the entire green - 60+ feet and then use the 6, 7, 8, 9 for less distance all the way to the notorious 4 foot chip... I tried his method, but need to practice it more to get my head around using the exact same swing no matter the club. What do you think?
