    Re: Can't get em straight

You are right as usual Bill. I played a comp last week, stroke play. I played super golf, well super for me. But two 8's buggered me up. One was when I got down a bank to the right of the green and the other a bunker to the right of the green. I messed up the recovery shots then 3 putted so that was that. Here hoping for a few more 5 and 6's and less 8's.

      Hi Bri
it does sound like your on the right road. you seemed to have improved a lot since last year. dont try and do to much to soon. your on the right track.
a lot of golf is in the mind. if you have your head right most of the time the body works in tandam.
i know know from playing for over 40 years, that confedence! not only your swing but in your picking the right shot! it can save you so often from the 6,7 or 8s on a hole. it learning when to take that you will drop a shot could take 3 shots off a round.
for years i would look a a 200 yard shot in the rough and say i could get there only to duff it up and take 6 or 7. where a 7 irn to the fairway would have only droped me a shot. hitting out the rough and hit a green at 200 yard i might do 10 times in a 100.
it the same round the green! if the shot you need it one you don't make most of the time them play away from the hole and hit a shot you know you can make 99% of the time.
always think. if i cant hit that shot 80% of the time then pick another shot and don't be afraide to play for one over on a hole.
      all the best
      Bill

        Re: Can't get em straight

Yep, I am going to try to think about it a bit more. Looks like I have had it this week though as I have no longer got a partner for the comp on Wed. The chap I played the last comp with, actually won the comp. He thought about it and was very good around and on the greens. To give you just one instance that kind of annoyed me at the time. From the drives, I was 80 yards ahead of him. After the second shots, I was 100 yards ahead of him. I used a lob wedge onto to green, 2 putted and got a really nice par. After this other guys 3rd shot, he was left and short of the green. He had to pitch over a bunker! He did that and then 1 putted! So where it looked like I had stuffed him all the way to the hole, he got the same par 5 as me!!! But you are correct though. Thanks mostly to yourself and BrianW and others, I have improved mega in the last year. As you say though, can't do it all at once.
