Re: blown it again
You have to learn how to score properly. That comes from experience and achieving scoring goals. Once you score say 5 over, the next time it's easier to do it and when you break par, the next time it is easier ...
There is a certain mind set you need to be able to play one shot at a time and that mind set doesn't come quickly or easily I'm afraid. There are things you can do to speed up the learning process and to make the learning more effective but either way, it takes time.
Competition play is VERY different from playing a singleton and knocking a score together. Despite what a lot of people say, competition and handicap rounds need special attention.
Everyone has bombed out at some time or another. I've also scored a 10 in tournament play and a whole lot of 8's and 9's too ... they happen. It's how you deal with them and learn from them.
Also remember you've come down from scoring like a 16-handicap to scoring like a 7 or 8 handicap in no time. Those bad swing habits are not out of the system yet and that consistency is not 100% there yet. As a 7 or 8 handicap your bad shots are far better than your bad shots as a 16 handicapper, but from time-to-time you'll hit a 16-handicap shot and that will cost you.
You need to give yourself time. It's too soon to expect to score like a 7 or 8 handicap every time. Okay??
