Definitely, I would want to be a better putter. Just on statistics alone, you hit your driver maximum 14 times on an 18 hole par 72 golf course. If you 2 putt every green you have 36 shots. You may save yourself 2 or 3 shots with longer drives, An extemely good putter probably saves himself 5 to 6 shots per round.
Drive for show, putt for dough? Anyone believe that?
They asked that in Today's Golfer and their studies showed that the longest hitters on the European Tour won more money then the best putters. The longest hitters included Ernie and Angel, while I've never even heard of the better putters.
Don't get me wrong though, I'd prefer to be a better putter especially seeing as I play a course which is sub 6000 yards.

I firmly believe it.
Using a top pros game as a comparison to our own doesn't hold up as they are excellent in all departments (usually).
A better comparison of a top player would be Jose Maria Olazabel who isn't the best driver in the world (understatement) but who's skill with the putter has dug him out of some very deep holes.
How many times does the average player ,who has hit a green in regulation ,walk away with a bogey?

No, I don't believe that. But, after reading Dave Pelz' research, I believe 'drive for show, SHORT GAME for dough' (short game being chips, pitches, flops and putts).
Look at Sergio - AMAZING driver of the ball and quite possibly the worst putter on earth. Whenever he has a halfway decent putting week, he wins.
And who is the best pressure putter on earth? I'll give you a hint, he won two majors this to complete the career grand slam for the second time at the age of 29.
I know the importance of putting and the short game but I just thought I'd bring up the fact that the top 5 longest hitters make more money on tour than the top 5 putters. It must be a mistake though, Today's Golfer must have made up those stats so it can't be believable! You just have to look at Tiger to see how important putting is.
What do you find more embarrassing? Slicing out of bounds or 3 (or 4) putting? Give me a slice any day!
The main idea in golf as in life I suppose, is to learn to accept what cannot be altered and to keep on doing ones own reasoned and resolute best whether the prospect be bleak or rosy. Bobby Jones
In my circle I'm average at best off the tee (see yesterdays "balance" question ) but probably the best putter. The trouble is that my short game is not good enough to take advantage of my putting.
So what I want for Christmas is a short game that gives me a good chance at making the up and down.
