    Re: Favourite tips

I have played this game for many years. During this time i suffered all the usual set backs, loss of swing, loss of confidence, loss of timing and tempo. one tip i can really recommend to get your swing back in the groove is::
Take your favourite iron ( the one which instills confidence ), for me i use a 7 iron. take your set up with your feet together and tee up your ball. Now just take gentle , relaxed half swings and think of nothing except clipping the ball of the tee. you will soon regain your tempo and timing.

I always start all my practice sessions with this routine.

      Good idea TPG.

What I am trying to do at the moment, is think rhythm in the swing.I tell myself inthe backswing "ernie" and in the downswing "ells" This seems to stop too quick a movement in the downswing. Might sound crazy, but with the loss of form I am suffering presently, I will try anything to get back!!!!

ninety percent of the golf swing is in the set up, I like that one a lot

TURN AROUND YOUR SPINE: try to imagine your spine as a central column, with your upper body rotaing around it. that is the essence of maintaining a constant spine angle. Try to keep yor spine angle fixed from the moment you address the ball to the moment your ball soars into the distance.
i see what your saying, but.....

i like to think of the backswing as that, but pros finsh with that reverce C so there lower body is "sliding" and there uper body is staying still. i don't like to say sliding, but on the downswing you can't just rotate, you have to have a weight trasfer, and after that leg is planted, then you can rotate aoround that and then you will "slide" and roate more natuarlly.

just try to plant your left foot into the ground as hard as you can, then rotate around that. just make sure you keep you head still and that will help give you the reverce C

but i like your ground up theory.

"Big legs are the source of power. I've been asked how the legs contribute to power, because they aren't touching the club. The answer is, sturdy legs give you stability, which in turn allows you to swing your arms faster." Jack Nicklaus

              Re: Favourite tips

my personal greatest tip would be...

the fact a lot of people i am discovering don't know as i once didn't know.
it is ok/good to have your right arm bent at impact. whatever it takes to keep a right hand cup, if that is bending your right arm at impact, then fine. now don't conciosly bend it.... just keep loose arms and hand (another great tip) and focus on keeping a cupped right cupped at impact and whatever postion your right arm is in is fine.

look at this and the impact drill to understand better
              http://members.cox.net/gregjwillis/LESSON1.htm

and the waggle and cup thread http://www.golf-tuition-online.com/g...ghlight=waggle to help inderstand cupping and cocking better.

not only learning this will give your great distances, but fanstastic accuarcy and you won't even feel the ball hit the club, it imakes the swing so effortless

                Re: Favourite tips

I have a tip regarding chipping.

Almost every poor chipper uses too much wrist and hand action, do that and you are condemmed to scooping the shot. You will lose the correct angle at the back of the left wrist. Never HIT UP on the shot or hang back on your right side, these actions move the bottom of your swing away from the hole. When that happens, you are condemmed to hitting the ground behind the ball.

Great thread...Supprised at lack of posts.

i agree somewhat. you want hand action on the backswing and no arm or wiehgt shift. on ANY SWING you DO NOT want any hand action on the downswing in the form of swating on full swing or chiping. the key to chpping is acceration through tht ball and trust the loft of the club to give you a short distance but you still have to acceratle through the ball or you will probly end up chunking or thining and the loft is not used correctly if you decelerate. still keep you right hand cup with chip. but you are right on not breaking down left wrist and scooping, that is bad.

not sure what you mean with the hitting up on the ball??? you want to hit down on the ball and that will let the ball run up the face and go up and backspin. the only time you want to hit up on the ball is with the driver

that is important.... but i see whenever pros hit a bad shot they will do some practice swings. they know ball physics and know if there last shot was a slice they know there face was open and do some practice swings.

                        then they block it out
