    Re: discussion for all.

    Hi Aft

In my early days of Golf I had a bad slice (like most do) I had countless lessons and practice at the range to try to improve, I was very close to giving it all up on many occasions and still did not seem to understand what was going on. It was only when I sat back, read some books, thought about it and tried to understand clearly what an Over the Top swing was, then understood the importance of swinging from the inside that I started to improve.

I guess what I am saying is that many beginners have swing problems, take lessons and spend large amounts of time and money on the range trying to improve but do not really understand the concept of what is causing the problem. I have observed people taking lessons for years but still not understanding what is causing the most fundamental problems. It begs the question "Do most Golf Pro's use the right teaching methods"

    Regards
    Brian

Thats a really good point Brian. I went to 3 different pro's when I was suffering slices and pulls a few years back and each one told me to do something different each time, I got the feeling they just wanted me to have identikit swings to their own. Like you I got fed up, did a lot of research, made myself a plan, found a method I wanted to adopt (the 1PS) and went and worked hard at it. A few times I succumbed and went for lessons and was told I was swinging incorrectly (because they were all 2PS swingers and thought I was coming way too far inside in the takeaway). So they were useless for me

I found for me I had to learn how to hit half swings and chips first since this verifies setup and grooves a correct takeaway and release. Even now I start all my practice and warm up sessions this way. Most amateures you see at the range, get 50 balls and take a driver and slice away for half an hour with no thought at all for what they are doing or no idea how to fix it. Ive even been asked by a few people at the range to offer advice as theyce seen me hitting a good ball and I would say learn to hit half swings and chips and dont process from there until you can hit 50 balls well. Of course 10 balls later they're bored and get the driver out again ..
