    Re: Stack & Tilt Help

    hi cmays
i found the hardest part was getting the arms to swing away from the body as you come into the ball and past it for about 8 inches or so but once you have it the system works great with every club and a lot of pros seemed to use Lee's system when hitting chips and pitches, open stance and push the arms through past impact then around to a high finish.
i find from about 160 to about 170 my 5 iron is one of my best shots and i often try and leave about that distance to the green and often drive off with my 1 iron to do this. i play a lot of links golf and keeping the ball on the fairway is a must as the rough if sometimes up to your knees here.
    cheers

      Re: Stack & Tilt Help

      hi cmays
i have neutral grip. two and a half knuckles, push/fade and i drop my right elbow to my hip on the downswing and first slid then turn my hips and as i come into the ball i feel like i swing my arms down the line of my target and away from my body and my aim is between where my feet aim and where i want the ball to end up. i feel the back of my left hand is looking at the target (flight) as it comes into the ball a few inches behind and maybe 8 inches past the ball, thats how it feels but may not be as much as that.
i aim my club face somewhere between where my feet aim and the point i want to ball to finish and i control the amount of fade by where i aim the clubface and don't change the angle of my stance much only open my feet wider or closer together when i change clubs.
i also find with most shots i set up with the club face in front of the ball as with my stance my shoulders seem to line up with the target like when at impact and that means i need the ball back in my stance more. hope you understand that last bit.
      cheers
      bill

        Re: Stack & Tilt Help

I was thinking along the same lines, cm.
With a one plane swing using stack and tilt, I like to tilt, move the ball back a tad and have the hands ahead at address. This takes the club back inside so you have to keep the spine angle, one cheek touching that wall going back and one cheek touching on impact with both cheeks showing completely on followthrough.
I set up with the back of left hand in direction of clubface and right hand bent back at address.
That space with the hands from the thigh should be one hands width from the butt end of the club, maybe just a tad more for some with longer leaning spines.

Some of the people who uses the stronger grip will need to move the ball back in the stance. There is not to many that Plays Lee's Swing on here, but I through that in.

        Guys:

        Stack and Tilt:

I have been busy on some projects, but one item of interest you can try with Stack and Tilt if your driver seems to be too steep. At address move the hands a little further out from the body.

This not a big move outwards just enough to where you can start feeling the back of the left hand being angled towards the sky if you are a right hander..

Where this may go wrong for you is in your grip.

          Re: Stack & Tilt Help

          cmays,
First of all, I want to thank you for breaking down and clarifying all the intricacies of the the Stack and Tilt. You have certainly made it easier for me to understand and then utilize it. The Golf Digest article would have benefited from any of your input.
I have a had a season of struggles with irons. Too many fat shots and pushes to the right. Changed equipment too often and listened to too many tips. Did'nt even want to read too much in any golf forums for awhile. But when I read about this in Golf Digest it interested me. I tried it out by just thinking of keeping my weight forward on L foot throughout swing and just turning my shoulders (no other thoughts) Immediately I have improved my iron play. It is marvelous for hitting 5-PW.
I have not found it as easily adaptable for the woods and driver yet. Feels too much armsy in the sweeping type swing of these clubs. Perhaps, some of the things you have added to this thread such as less of a left side weight shift may help.

Thanks, again. I'm back to feeling confident approaching greens with irons and not reaching for the hybrid and woods as I tended to do.
