  • swinging thru / hitting

having spent the last 6 months refining my swing , with the aid of this site, i have been experiencing lower back pain , specifically just left of the spine and above the buttock.
having gone to youtube via a link from this site , i found a video clip to do with focus. basically, you focus on the ball , hit the ball , instead of focusing on the target and mearly looking at the ball.
so i decided to try this in the garden, and to my surprise that twinge in my lower back was not there.so i began to wonder why.it would seem that in swinging through to the target the momentum pulls the upper body up and in line with the hips , whereas before i think my hips finished slightly out in front which put undue pressure on my lower back.
i would be interested to know from you guys whether i am on the right track here , as i am yet to try this down the range .

    Re: swinging thru / hitting

    Hi,

Most back pain or any pains for that matter occure when trying to change something, i.e. being tense and forcing things.
Once you swing correctly, moving the lower body slightly first then letting everything go through, you should have your whole body facing the target, thus no pain.
Unfortunatley alot of people are prone to pains etc and golf can simply bring these on like any sport may, the thing to remember if you suffer is to relax with every shot and work on tempo for the whole body.

In my case I think golf has helped me strengthen my back, I used to suffer with back pains, but I have played golf every week for years now and the exercise has helped.

    Good Luck

    Ian.
