  • Stolen Clubs - Insurance claim.

I've had the mis-fortune of having my clubs stolen out the boot of my car on friday evening, luckily the clubs are insured. I've had the the police call and i've obtained a crime reference number from them. I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and how long they had to wait for the money to come through. Also will I get a cheque made payable to me or will it be payable to a golf shop? any information is greatly appreciated.

    hi daviesec
ive had my clubs stolen before, i rang the police and ins company who told me to go to american golf discount as they were their preferred supplier.
AGD prepared a quote which they sent to the ins ccompany and i had my new gear 5 days later!
hope yours is as smooth a transaction

      Hi Dave mate,

Sorry to hear about your misfortune as having anything sotlen is not nice.

I can however smooth over this by telling you that you could get a bit more from your insurance company. As a friend had his clubs stolen from the pro shop where he was having them cleaned. The golf pro who owned the shop told him that he would right down what was stolen for him with prices and also inform the police who also got a statment from him as well.
      • What actual was stolen was his old taylor made iron driver woods and wedges
      and he claimed for
      • New taylor made irons that where only 6 months old new driver wedges rescue plus pro quip waterproofs and bag.
Within 2 months he got his cheque which went straight to the golf shop pro and he got for his money all of the above he claimed for and a brand new pair of golf shoes from the club pro because he got a good deal on his clubs.

      Who says liars never prospect.

      Cheers
      Mark

Why is it that as people we're outraged when someone scams old or desperate people out of their money, but we rally behind those that scam businesses?

I spoke to my insurance company this morning who informed me that I need get two quotes from different suppliers and also send them the copies of the receipts from the goods i'd previously purchased. Thats where the problem begins, i've bought a lot of my stuff off ebay and don't have the emails or receipts. I told them a little white lie and said that most of my equipment had been bought for me. Still a bit concerned that they'll find a way out of paying up.

If you are claiming for decent stuff your insurance company will insist on receipts - and I don't blame them really.

But all is not lost - a bit of a pain but you could try a little detective work:

              a) checking your MyEbay history - depending when you bought the clubs the info might still be there.

              b) check you feedback - this will give you the seller's details and a nice grovelling email should do the trick

              c) if you paid by paypal then your account history will give most of the details you need

              Good luck

The only problem with that is got some of the stuff really cheap, eg a R7 425 TP driver brand new for £95 (mind I did have to stay up til 4 in the morning as it was listed on Ebay USA) when they were still selling on Uk websites for £300+.

are you a member of a club?
if so you could ask your pro to do a predated quote for insurance purposes.

Yes i've been today to get a quote from him for the stolen clubs. He has wrote on the bottom of the quote "all clubs bought from this shop over last 2 years" Hopefully the insurance company will accept this. fingers crossed anyway.

                          Daviesec,

Sorry what happened, The same thing happed to my middle school golf coach last year at the golf course. He went inside and left his putter outside lying on a tree. When he came back, it wasn't there anymore. Over the weekend, he just got himself a new Ping putter and forgot about his old one.

BTW, you say your clubs were stolen yesterday, June 10, 2007 or 6-10-2007. but in your sig it says they were stolen August 6, 2007 or 8-6-07.

Re: Stolen Clubs - Insurance claim.

The underlying principle of any insurance policy is (where possible) after a loss to put the claimant back into the same financial position enjoyed immediately prior to the loss.

Ok, that's the technical statement out of the way.

Unsure about Insurance practices over in the UK Dave, but here in Oz, most Householders Policies come with a "New for Old" clause written in , so, that being the case, with proof of ownership checking out, you should get new equipment to replace your old, regardless of the relative value and what you paid for it originally.

All that matters is that you had it and can prove it.

If your policy doesn't have a "new for old" clause, then all your Insurer will do is attempt to quantify the value of what was lost then pay you equitably for it in whatever method is most convenient for you. After all, you are their Customer and they will (or at least "should") do all they can to make this experience as distasteful as possible...

Check your wording. Some times it pays to read the fine print ahead of time...

                            Cheers
