  • A desparate plea for help!!!!!

Ok guys and gals of the golfing world, I'm in need of urgent assistance.

I recently discovered that my legendary Orlimar VT830 3 wood (the one with the changeable weights) developed a crack in the face. Not a problem, I thought. I'll buy a new one.

    Pah.

It seems that since bringing out the VT830 range in 2003 Orlimar have been bought by King Par and a new set of woods has surfaced from their factories.

In addition, I cannot seem to get hold of a VT830 3 wood with a stiff shaft (either Orlimar or Aldila NVS) in decent condition to save my life.

Because they are (very) old hat it seems that they retail around the $70 (£35) mark from new (plus postage to UK which is normally about $35/£17).

So this is my last chance and I am calling on all good natured golfers around the world (mainly Americans as that's where most Orlimar relics seem to reside!) to scour their local/national golf shops looking for:

Orlimar VT830 3 wood (with or without changeable trajectory cartridges) with a stiff shaft (Orlimar or Aldila NVS) either in new or like new condition with the headcover otherwise I may go nuts - particularly since I recently managed to find and buy the matching 5 wood for £30/$60 brand new here in England, but they've sold out of 3 woods and aren't getting any more!!

Plus, if I don't find one and have to settle for another make (please Lord no) my secret will be out as these woods are by far the hottest thing on the planet and regularly see me keep up with my playing partners drives with a little gentlemans persuader!

    HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEELP!!!

    PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEEEASE!!!

I am willing to add £10/$20 to the price as a finders fee and to pay for the time and trouble it will take one of you gorgeous peeps to find one for me and send it over here.

    Easy money eh?

I'm on the verge of tears.

    Hi Neil

Are they really that good? I've heard of Orlimar but have never seen anyone using one. I hope you manage to get hold of one, if you don't get one please consider a Sonartec 3 wood. I bought from Slater a few month ago and is the BEST club I have ever used. The distance I get is unreal, have hit several 280 yard tee shots with it. Thanks Slats again if you read this.

Like Sonartec, Orlimar has a cult following.

Neil - breathe brother - your local Canadian clubmaker is going to save your sanity.

Buy any old replacement - and reshaft it with your current shaft. You DO still have your shaft, right? Wrap some masking tape around the shaft near the head, and as accurately as you can, identify the target side of the shaft. YOU WANT THIS MARK TO LINE UP AS CLOSE TO EXACTLY AS YOU CAN ON YOUR NEW HEAD. The other thing you'll want to do is get the heads to weigh as closely as possible to one another - some lead tape on the skirt is the best (but ugliest) method.

          Hi Neil

I had a similar problem a few years back and used mylostclub.com - who were willing to locate and ship a replacement club from states to uk - at a price (more to the point when the missing iron turned up they cancelled the order without a complaint), unfortunately they don't appear to be in operation anymore but you could try...

          http://www.golfclubfinder.com/

...unlikely to be a cheap solution but thats your call if they find one.

            Hello "local" Canadian Clubmaker!!

Thanks for the Blue Peter method! I like it!

One thing I didn't mention is that I put my Orlimar 3 wood in for reshafting as it had a R flex and wanted stiff, so the shaft was no good for me anyways. Hence I do not have it. The pro noticed teh cracked face on the head. Consequently a need the club, the whole club, and everything with the club!

But thaks for the insiders tip! Appreciated!

Yes sir they are. I originally stumbled on them when I was rooting through the bargain bucket at my old club about 6 years ago. I picked up their 315cc Driver and have never gone back since.

I toyed with Taylormade and Callaway for a while but always came back to Orlimar. The explosion of the clubface is unreal (but legal!) and as for the distance off the woods, it has been known for me to hit similar distances as your Sonartec one off the tee. It bugs the hell out of the club juniors when I'm only 5 yards behind their drives with a 3 wood!

Plus, for the prices they go for, they're an absolute bargain and don't fall apart like something from JJB (unless you crack the face from hitting it soooooo hard !).

I'm particularly after the Orlimar VT830 version because I'm a tart and want my set to match!

I will, however, keep Sonartec in mind if they're as long as you say!

              Thanks sir!

I've filled in the form. Let's see if they come up with anything!

                The alternative is buying this:

                Orlimar Fury//FWY 3 15* Fairway Wood BRAND NEW - eBay (item 320296205839 end time Sep-11-08 13:02:56 PDT)

Not ideal, but still Orlimar and well cheap! Never played a square one before!

You could always buy the shaft you want seperate, since you're reshafting anyway...

                    Aha! You underestimate my cheapskatedness!

England being England, it would cost me almost double the cost of a complete new club to buy the head I want, the shaft I want, the grip I want, and get someone to fit it.

This country excels at bleeding us dry with taxes here, taxes there and carbon footprint codswalop everywhere. Disposable income is at an all time low, I'm afraid, so I have to be cheap!

I picked up a Sonartec NP-99 (Nick Price) 3 wood recently for £30. It has an Aldila NV S shaft. I take it to bed.

No but I suppose chuffage would ease the discomfort of chaffage.
