    Re: Ashton?

I haven't hit the X-1D, but I have heard the same as you, the X-1D is only better off the tee. I do use my X-1 3 wood off the tee quite a bit and I find it is excellent. I was at the simulator yesterday playing Pinehurst #2 and there were 3 occasions where I hit my X-1 3 wood around 270 yards - once off the tee, once off the fairway and once out of the 1st cut of rough. Not an exact science on the simulator, but usually quite close.

My X-1 5 wood should be in on Wednesday. With the 1 and 1/2 feet of snow we have had in the last 2 weeks, it will be a while before I can get out on the course, but the simulator may require another visit in the next couple weeks again.

      *Update*

First off, thank's to Gord and Low for the info and input they gave.

The 5 wood arrived yesterday and I decided to hit with the 39 degree weather at the range. I had it done up with the Pro Launch tipped to firm.

First, very nice looking head ( I was worried about the size, but she's just fine ). I got warmed up and decided to hit the Wishon ( 3 wood ) again to start, get some rythm and see if I could work on the low shot I was getting with it ( it's gettin better ).

Broke the Ashton out and am very happy with the results. I'm getting much better height with the Pro Launch ( thats what I wanted ). The Ashton come's off the face just as hot as the Wishon and she really goooes when hit well. It was kind of hard to judge the distance being cold and a bit of wind ( If I had to guess, I'd say somewhere between 220 to 230ish ) but I know the Ashton 5 wasn't much off the 3 wood distance . My personal opinion is that the Ashton feel wise was much better to me than the Wishon, especially on the mishits. Very nice stick overall ( although they really could upgrade the headcovers a bit ). I want to hit them together again and if the distances are that close I might be ordering the 3 wood ( that'll make the wife happy ) Anyone interested in a Wishon 515 3 wood shoot me a pm.

Again thank's for the input guy's....

Right, both the Wishon 515 and Ashton have a 0.830 Cor correct?

            Re: Ashton?

Yep. Both .830. I knew Ashton for sure, and just looked up Wishon. Both super heads.

My bag may change dramatically (depending on how well I hit the MS-5 HW), to Ashton in the long stuff (Driver, 3w, and hybrids) with SnakeEyes providing the irons and SMT providing the wedges.

Now, where can I buy some game...

              Re: Ashton?

Might be doing the samething with the 3 wood or if I don't sell the 515, I might try the Pro Launch in it. The Fh shaft might be a bit stiff for me. I'm gonna test them again this weekend before I make up my mind.

The 515 is a great head ( it made the Golf Digest hot list ) and I don't know if it's a good or bad thing but you know right at contact if you mishit the Wishon, but when hit properly she is loooong. Where the Ashton felt a little better on those mishits. Overall both great heads, I just think it depends on the shafts...

I just put my X-1 5 wood together last weekend. I am really looking forward to taking a few rips at the ball with it!!!

Somehow I got a feeling you won't be disappointed.

Did you shaft it up with the same shaft as your 3? If you used the same shaft, I'm wondering what the yardage difference will be for you between the 2. Let us know how thing's come out..

                    Re: Ashton?

I know I will be happy. Yes, same shafts as well.

I have the MS-5 driver and comparing 'best hits ever' there is about a 30 yard gap between my driver and 3 wood. Including roll, I have hit my driver approx 330 and my 3 wood approx 300 yards. Those were my best hits, which I was swinging for the fences and actually caught it on the sweet spot while doing so. Of course, average distance is much different. My normal 3 wood shot is somewhere around the 270 marker and my driver I would suggest is right around the 300 yard distance. If I could continue with the difference in distance, that would give me about 240 yards. That would be perfect since my 3 iron goes about 215 - 220. I really need something to fill the gap. I can choke up and ease up on my 3 wood, but I find I get very inconsistant results since I don't practice a softer swing.
