    Re: Rules Questions Answered

I guess you use one of the other 1-pen options, i) drop the ball on the backwards extension of the line from the hole to the ball, any distance ii) drop as near as possible where the last stroke was made (could be the tee).

Generally on an unplayable I quite like (i) as often it give you the chance to set up a shot you prefer.

There are three options for an unplayable lie.

1: Drop within 2 club lengths no nearer the pin.

2: Drop the ball any distance back on a line passing through the point of entry and in line with the pin.

3: Replay the ball as near as possible to the original point of play.

          Not quite

2: Drop the ball any distance back on a line passing through the point where the ball lay and in line with the hole.

Hi my question is in relation to casual water my partners ball was on the fairway in casual water and he said that he could take a drop at the nearest point of relief which would of put him off the fairway and in the rough at a disadvantage for his next shot . i said that he could drop his ball on the other side of the fairway were it was dry as long as it was not nearer the hole as i believe that taking the drop should not put you at a disadvantage for your next shot.
could you please advise if i am correct
              Regards

[QUOTE=pjs;10573606] he said that he could take a drop at the nearest point of relief /QUOTE]

                  Note: Nearest not Nicest.

Another time you may find the casual water in the rough and relief is available on the fairway.

                      Re: Rules Questions Answered

I the last tournament at Sun City Miguel Jimenez had a ruling against him in that he had hit his ball down a pipe but this pipe ran under the water hazard demarcation line and his ball had come to rest past the line so deemed to be in the hazard. My question is if your ball goes into a rabbit burrow in a bunker ajoining a green and the ball can be seen and is actually far enough down the hole to be under the green can you take your ball to be on the green and thus drop it on the green at the point above its position in the burrow.

                      Thanks

                          Re: Rules Questions Answered

I am watching the US Senior Open and have noticed that sometimes when a player is within a couple of inches of the hole, they place the putter behind the ball and drag it into the hole instead of making a putting stroke which actually hits the ball. Is this valid? If so, from what distance is this allowed? I have noticed this quite often in both professional golf on the TV and in club golf, but it has never been questioned by the commentators.
