    Re: Best Driver?

I'd like to recant my previous posts. I've been doing some thinking, and some reading, and would like to issue (and stand by) the following statement:

The best driver is the one fit to your swing.

        Re: Best Driver?

I am on my second Taylormade R7 exactly the same as the first one just not as worn.

I agree with Lowpost, get the driver that best suits you, most of it is about confidence anyway, once you are good enough to hit the driver consistantly.

With all the new drivers comming out every week promising "another" 10 yds I should be hitting around 550yds by now......................don't get drawn.

          Re: Best Driver?

Well my thoughts on this that everyone must have their own favorite driver that they hit consistant and accurately for me my fav is my Taylor made R540xd 10deg loft as it feels great hitting a ball with it.
          Cheers

            Re: Best Driver?

the only thing I would add to this is workability. many of the stock drivers come with a hook face. this makes it visually more difficult to fade the ball.

There are several good ones... shaft is most important.

                  Re: Best Driver?

Yes, most amateurs can not get the clubface closed so the mfg aids in this process by closing the face.

Titleist 983 E and Taylot R7 TP are standard to open faces; however.

There are a lot of golfers out there who'll spend a fortune on the latest driver to display in their bag but if it isn't suited to them it's just bling.
I went through that phase with TaylorMade....now have a Cobra in my bag and loves it! Wanna know the truth? I learned how to use the Cobra the right way But, nothing wrong with buying status if it makes you feel good. Otherwise everyone would be driving a Hyundai or wearing Levi Basics. Go to a Demo Day and Swing Away! Nothing better than walking from one manufacturer to the next and swinging their latest engines. That is really when Cobra convinced me. Which is actually made by Titleist. Check the difference in price between the name Titleist and the name Cobra.

I thought id better put in some good comments for titleist seeing as everyone seems to be raving about the R7 (which is a nice club)... My fav club is the titleist 983E... its a 9.5* stiff shaft... i can work the ball quite well however i do sometimes get a mean hook on it.. but over all i like it.

                          Re: Best Driver?

Recently I went to Golfsmith and tried the following drivers: Callaway X460 10* Std. Shaft, Nike SQ 11* Std. Shaft, and the MacGregor MACTEC NVG2 11* Std. shaft.

I currently play mostly Callaway equipment and am usually most confident/comfortable with their offerings if for no other reason than just because. This time out I was supprised in that The MacGregor actually felt the best for me on that day.

I went ahead based on my preference and picked up a Callaway X460 11* driver with std. flex shaft. Out at the range I feel as good as I did with the MacGregor. Perhaps I am just feeding my psyche.

Today while at the driving range I broke out my Adams SC series 10.5* (Faldo 814N) driver just to see how the two compared. My initial thought that there was enough time and advancement in technology that the X driver would surely feel and yield better results than the Adams driver. Oddly enough, if I wasn't careful my shot shape remained the same. The new driver did yield 20 to 30 yards more and I attribute that to the larger and more forgiving head.

Coming from a newbie, I recommend you try as many as possible before you make your decision.

I haven't tried it, but I'd look into the all new Cleveland Hibore driver. Really looks wicked with that lower centre of gravity and the shape it has!

                              Re: Best Driver?

I golf on a budget and just traded in my 230cc Top-Flite Intimidator 10.5 reg shaft for a Cleveland Launcher 330 9.5 with Fuji Gold Stiff shaft and absolutely love it. I always thought that I would like a Launcher and I was right. I read the reviews of all the launchers and jumped at one. My technique doesn't allow me to blast the ball way down the fairway just yet but I love the noise that the Launcher makes on solid contact and the way the ball flies off the face, usually relatively straight.
Now I am waiting for a La Jolla Knife 3 and 5 woods that I ordered off of Ebay after hearing awesome reviews on those.
