I've read so many threads about people averaging 300 yards off the tee, seems like they are posting the same problems I've had or having but I'm amazed that a high percent of people always mention that they average over 300 yards a drive. I average in the neighborhood of 230 and I feel like when I hit one 250 i've "crushed" it. I've only hit over 300 yards four times in my 3 years of playing. Am I really that far behind everyone else because I'm no were near averaging over 300 yards a drive and I play often. (I'm a 15 hdp)

Re: average 300 yards really?
I would suggest that you are about average. Most people who hit in the 300s are usually posting to brag about their ability to hit a ball that far (I know I am guilty of this myself) but I know any of the people I golf with on a regular basis rarely hit over 250.

Re: average 300 yards really?
Unless you live and play in West Texas (as I do), I would guess most posters do not hit it that far. I hit it about 290 including roll out here because it is hard. When I go to Missouri for our annual golf trip, My drives are usually around 250 and many of those plug or even back up in the fairway.

Re: average 300 yards really?
at the range, feeling loose, no score to screw up..... 300 yards incl. roll, I will hit very often when it is hot out. with s#itty range balls
But I did hit a 300 yard drive on the course the other day, it was a 349 yard hole, I just swung smooth with an easy tempo, must have hit smack dab in the SS and I was pitching it to the green from inside of 50 yards.
Ball was a pro v1x
What's funny is....
all my drives feel the same way, but the results are not always the same.
I guess it is the forgiveness in these new 460cc drivers

Re: average 300 yards really?
gord is right, most amateurs really only hit is 230-250, they only think they hit it really far, ive had longer drives, and i can see why a tour pro can do it because they hit thousands of balls a day and can hit it perfect everytime

Re: average 300 yards really?
The roll will vary from course and wind. If you just count the carry distance , most amateur hit only 200-240 yard carry with driver. Even Tiger average is 300.4 , vijay is 294.6. These people hit 1000 balls everyday.
But every one can hit 5 wood for 200 yards. May be 5 wood is easiest club to hit.

Re: average 300 yards really?
Most peopel average 250 or less, but remeber this, with good techique MOST EVERYONE should be able to hit drives 270+ Honestly it is not that hard to hit it that far. Good set up, grip, balance, cupped right wrist, maintained spine angle, do that and you will hit far.

Re: average 300 yards really?
I agree, 270+. i am 6'1" and 165 (skinny guy) and i can hit 270, it is all because of technique. i started 5 months ago hitting 200ish. the main keys for me was the gregs RHD and a tension free swing. gave me that extra 60-80 yds, no exageration. just a better techniqueOriginally posted by shootin4parMost peopel average 250 or less, but remeber this, with good techique MOST EVERYONE should be able to hit drives 270+ Honestly it is not that hard to hit it that far. It's amazing how far an easy swing will go, with my ss of 105, I will swing my driver at about 80-85%Originally posted by lgskywalker37I agree, 270+. i am 6'1" and 165 (skinny guy) and i can hit 270, it is all because of technique. i started 5 months ago hitting 200ish. the main keys for me was the gregs RHD and a tension free swing. gave me that extra 60-80 yds, no exageration. just a better technique
If I try to swing harder/faster, I loose control and honestly, even if I connect well with the ball, I don't think it goes much further.
The easy tempo allows for a higher chance of hitting it right in the sweet spot, creating more distance and control.

very true, but i think another reason an easy swing goes further is becaue you will usaully have less tension then when you are trying to kill itOriginally posted by Burnaby SpecialIt's amazing how far an easy swing will go, with my ss of 105, I will swing my driver at about 80-85%

Re: average 300 yards really?
Hit it between 220-260 yards carry. We get no roll here where I live in Scotland. I'm sure if I went to play in warmer climates and with firmer ground, I could hit up to 280. I agree with when you feel you swing hard and connect properly, it doesn't go much further. Swinging harder doesn't equal more club head speed though.
