    Re: average 300 yards really?

Aaaahhhh.... the beauty of a golf GPS device.

I consistently carry the ball 255 yards 8/10 times. The other two I sky it and lose 60 yards, and the other time I pure it and get another 10 or 15 yards.

FWIW, my swing speed is 105 MPH with my 44.25" driver.

        Re: average 300 yards really?

I'm starting to get confused, I went to my local club fitter and was swinging some drivers when I realised he had a swing speed measuring device. I turned it on and starting hitting some balls in the net, I was constantly getting around 95-98 mph and I average about 260 meters off the tee (about 285 yards) and thats just about all carry. Now I'm assuming that when I'm warmed up my speed may be a bit higher, but I'm suprised at people saying their swing speed is 105mph and they're only hitting it 250 yards?? Like I said I'm confused, any light on the subject?

I don't believe normal people hit the ball 300 yards. That's 3 football fields! Maybe once in a while but certainly not average.
          Bubba Watson = 319
          JB Holms = 312
          Camilo Villegas = 308

That's average WITH roll. And these guys are among the best in the world.

wow, that is crazy, my ss is about 110ish and my carry is 265ydsish and you say you get 285? my smash factor is about 1.47 you live in a high elavation? hot temperature?

if your elevatiuon is 3000+ feet on a 100* day that is easier to believe.

try to get your ball speed measuered, i am curouis as to what it would be.

even at high elevation with hot temps, (acoording to some algarithms) you would need a smash factor of about 1.57 i have never seen abouve 1.54 before, 1.5 is cosidered near perfect.

I agree James, I believe as some have posted that the majority are just pumping them selves up and bragging, at least I would say most are doing just that. I'm sure many do hit over 300 regularly however not by average. What leads me to believe this is most of them posting that they average over 300 are asking the same questions that I'm posting regarding driving. If they hit the ball over 300 in average why are they asking questions about how to set up or club take away? (but I'll keep an open mind, you never know)

                Re: average 300 yards really?

since i got my new 460cc driver i'm hitting an easy 20m further than i was before.

i should get anotehr 20+m on this when i get my technique right. for me i just have to stay down on the ball a fraction longer.

on an average day i'll hit 220 - 230m with roll.

the best i've done and i'll claim it was 300m. par 5 470m. was 150m from green for my 2nd shot. the 20m discrepancy was being off the fairway reducing my distance in approach to teh green. this ball just seamed to be in the air forever. i was using a Titlist nxt tour.

Well I'm from Australia and it's our cooler month at the moment and there isn't elevation at all, but about the smash factor thing I don't know what that is and I havent had my ball speed measured before. As I said before it's confusing because my clubhead speed isn't way up there but I hit it a fair distance even with an X-flex shaft?????

                    Re: average 300 yards really?

the smash factor is the is the relation from ball speed to swing speed. so if you have a ss of 100 and a smash factor of 1.5 then your ball speed should be 150 mph. hitting the sweetspot of the club is what makes up most of the smash factor, but the weight has to do with it too. but i think your club head speed is being read wrong, that is the only explanation i have

with you elevation and temp that means you have a smash facotr of 1.65+ thats crazy, how heavy is your shaft and head?

I'm using a Nike Ignite 410cc 9.5 with a Grafalloy Blue 65 X-flex, it is 290 grams (0.6 lb), it does'nt really feel that heavy.

                        Where are you from lgskywalker?
110ss and only 265yards, thats kinda strange......

Are there lots of different type launch monitors?
The sales guy in Golftown told me not to bank on the data from the one in their store.

On another note, I tried out a Nike sasquatch 8.5* stiff at the range today, SWEEEET club. I hit the fence about 20 feet above the ground.

                          Re: average 300 yards really?

launch monitors are decieving because they are different and measure swing speed at different points.
say player A has a swing speed measured at 110 but the monitor measure before or at the ball and player B measures at 105 but it is at seperation, player b will hit the ball farther
                          about the gps,
what I do is use a range finder on the tee bok and turn around a pick a tree behind it, measure distance to the tree, then go to the ball and measure to the tree, then subtract from tee to tree. I believe range finders are more usefull because I can point at any spot I want and get the distance. If the greens are rolling hard and fast I may point to the lip of the bunker and i know i just need to carry it over that. If I want to hit a driver over a tree, I can measure that to see if I have the carry distance, if a tree is 40 feet high it makes a difference if I am 260 or 275 away from it

Adz, how do you know you're hitting it 285? Based on how far you have to go to the pin? Using that methodology, I used to hit it about 285, too, with my 105 mph SS. It wasn't until I actually had a method of straight-line measuring my shots that I realised I carried it 255, and get about 10 yards of roll or so.

I'm not trying to be rude but If you hit it in excess of 255 yards 9 times out of 10 then how come you only managed a 99 on your home course? Where are you losing all those shots? I'm a 90s shooter too and hit only 230 4 out of 10 times and my iron play, is not stellar either. But if I was hitting it as far as you with that kind of consistancy I would be shoting in the 80s.

i live in DC, i am guessing my ss, the launch monitor only told me my ball speed, and that was in the 150's and it was probly closer to 270yds but i still think that is normal, how is that strange?
