Wow so good. The ranges here in Singapore only have one big general sign, but recently they have all added additional signs, so you might see the old 100m sign here, and then another new 100m sign which is like obviously 20 nearer

The problem is the range balls don't go as far as real balls so distance is basically impossible to gauge. I guess it's more about focusing on trajectory and ball striking.

Re: How far does your best drive carry?

That is a very good point. I seem to hit farther on the course as well. Actually, I do in the air. At many of the courses I play in the Philippines, the ball roll is much worse than what I get at the range. I really get discouraged when I hit the ball well on the course only to see that the ball has hit and jumped backward. Once I cleared this nasty water hazard, only to watch in dismay as it leaped up and back into the water. It is the worst when the fairways are soggy from the rain (a constant here).

For me it is getting the right flight to a fixed point when I am at the range and doing so consitently.

        Cheers!

I hit my drives about 260 yards, use to hit them a bit further but for some reason of late I have lost power..

I was playing a round of golf on the simulator on the weekend and my best carry of the day was 301 yards.

Re: How far does your best drive carry?

When I was in the States last week I went to range in San Jose, CA

As you approached the range you could see the fence at the back and one of the markers actually on the fence. When I got into a bay that marker was 250 yards. I never saw one ball (out of about 50 people there) hit that fence and a lot of the guys there were hitting it great

I would guess balls on driving ranges fly about 20% less than your pro v1's would and that gets higher the longer you fly them

Re: How far does your best drive carry?

Hi there folks, this is my first post.
I only play about a dozen rounds a year now (must get out on the course more), but still manage to shoot in the mid seventies (par 71 6300 yards), and I hit the ball further now as an unfit 5ft 10in 14 stone slob, than when I was 11st and very fit (cycle racing, badminton etc).
I carry about 250 on the range, resulting in a total distance of around 280 - 300 yards. On the course, I have driven the short par fours (290 340 yards) and seem to hit the par fives up to 550 in two.
The two guys I play with don't have handicaps either, but we seem to hit about the same length. Modern equiptment has a lot to answer for, as the ball does not seem to sidespin so much.
I use an Integra Soooolong 450R (49 quid display model), and it is the straightest club I have ever used - IS IT LEGAL though, and has anyone else tried one?

Re: How far does your best drive carry?

I love it here in Australia, get alot more roll... i can change my swing so i get about 215mtrs all carry which will finish about 220mtrs.. but i like a flat trajectory that allows me to get about 235-250 mtrs...
(300 yards is about 268 mtrs for all who are wondering... give or take)

I live at 5300 feet Elivation in Denver Colorado. I can fly the ball 320 on my best drive. But regulary fly the ball 270-280.

                    Range Balls SUCK!

                    -good drill- time consuming
                    1. Get 20 good golf balls, preferably YOURE brand. 2. Take a friend and mesure, (50yrd string) and mark (towel or cone etc...) 75, 100, 150, 175, and 200 yards and hit the twenty balls with each club. You must record where each 20 land... not end up. average them together and there yougo! you have each club dialed in.

You will have much better Distance decissions for it.

The SOOOlong has been used by the long drive community for a while...
www.usga.org has a Conforming and none conforming Driver list posted online. I belive that R&A has recently aligned its Driver rules to the USGA's this year. NOt sure who your governing body is.

I am a 6, and usually carry it to the 250 yard range flag. With roll about 270 ish and in winter West Texas, that roll goes up to about 50 yards.

Re: How far does your best drive carry?

Well you can look at range balls like this, say you have nice shinny new car, when it is new that baby will run..same car after 150,000 miles ain't so peppy. Them range balls are the same thing, after being spanked thousands of time, they ain't too peppy, they also ain't too round anymore. So using the range for anything other then warming up, or working on a swing change, is useless. I don't pay much attention to what the ball does distance wise on the range. When the pro's go to the range, you think they are hitting range balls...ooohh nnooo...they have thier spot marked, not because they are special, it is because that is were thier golf balls are, Tiger goes to the range and there are brand new nikes just waiting for him, all the pro are the same, with what ever brand they are contracted with, even the lesser names that don't have a contract, get free Titleist balls.

So the pro does have an advantage over us, in that he gets to play with brand new stuff, all the time. Most pro's change balls after every hole or other hole. We have to play the same ball until we lose it, we ain't getting our stuff free. Golf balls do lose thier pep even after only being hit 5 or 6 times. If Bubba had to use the same ball for 18 holes, I think you might see that stat come down some. This affect every aspect, new clubs with nice grooves, new shafts, new gloves, this stuff does make a difference. This is were your 20, 30 yards is coming from, being a pro has it's benifits.

Re: How far does your best drive carry?

I think the consistency of being able to practice with the same ball you play, is the most important. The range balls where I go have a nice feel to them, but are very straight and forgiving (Iwould have to play a Pinnacle or some other rock to be that straight on the course), so when I go out to play my straight drives have a touch (or more) of draw on them, which can easily turn into a hook.
If I was a pro then I could probably sort these things out, but with me, it leads to doubt and nervy shot selection.

Some of you guys are massive hitters..

At my local club I am classes as a big hitter, not as big as the scratch golfers but Big..

I only hit my drives about 275 yards max and regulary around 260 like I said earlier.

I am 5'7' and weigh 8 and a half stone. I'm only 14 and I'm rubbish at golf. My average drive goes like 150 yards and my best is 240 lol.
