Re: i used the 3 skills and nailed it!
Hi all
I bought the three skills book a few weeks back. The book is very simple to understand.
Last Friday evening, I went for a practice session before the dark nights are finally are here. I practised extensively SK1, using the drill detailed in the book. I have to say I was very impressed with the quality of the strike, especially since I have battled a fat shot for most of my career. I tried skill 2 as well but was not quite as successful, but to be honest I was getting carried away at ripping the ball and did not set the drill up exactly as detailed in the book. Played on the Saturday, and did well for the first holes, with a a set of pars. Unforuntately I startefd thining about my swing too much rather than "applying" the 3 skills, however four over for nine was not bad.
Will be out again Saturday if the weather is good to practice the 3skills again.

Re: i used the 3 skills and nailed it!
Yes, I was on the range trying to find a reliable drive for tomorrow's big society day and I reverted to what I think of as my one plane swing (it probably isn't) with the driver and it went well. I'll hit my irons and fairway woods using the draw imagery tomorrow but not my driver just yet.

Re: i used the 3 skills and nailed it!
I am going back to what I have been working on for several weeks and that is the one-plane golf swing. With that said it seems to me that the 3 skills method is ideal for this swing. Anyone else feel this way as well?

Robin posted this link in another thread. Putting aside the marketing sell it has a nice explanation of how skill 3 works in the swing and the importance of the wrists for generating power.

Hi Mariner,
I have found hovering the club above the ball in an open and closing mannor helps.

Re: i used the 3 skills and nailed it!
I've read the book twice and had three range sessions putting it into practice, and yesterday I took it to the course for the first time.
Firstly, I got three birdies, which for me is a phenomenon (I'm a cautious, short but safe 13 h/c, and usually manage 4-7 GIR and one birdie every 4 rounds or so) and these were a direct result of the length and accuracy of using the 3skills.
BUT - I also hit 4 tee shots OB to the right (my old game was based around NEVER, EVER doing anything like this) and when I did this for the fourth time at the 18th I walked in without finishing so I don't know my score, but I didn't break 90 while I usually average around 83.
I have no problem with skill one, I've never had much of a problem finding the middle of the clubface, but I do have issues with skills 2 and 3.
Attacking the ball from the inside (skill 2) is obviously highly desirable and I have fought against an over-the-top move for 20 years, so though I find it difficult, I know it's the right thing to do.
Skill 3 however, I'm not sure about at all - to produce effortless power the clubface should go from open to closed through the impact zone, fine, but what if you mistime it? How do you NOT mistime it? This is what caused my OBs and it is something I've been trying to take OUT of my game for the last 3 years, giving up length for accuracy with no conscious wrist rolling.
OK I haven't practised it enough yet, but I still can't see how you can make skill 3 consistent.

Re: i used the 3 skills and nailed it!
Hi Kevin,
I first heard about the 3skills in Golf Punk a few months ago. And I've just recently bought the book, really enjoyed it. Would love to come down to Hersham Village GC for a lesson. What is the address and phone no.? It is a bit of a journey for me (North Londoner), but you can't get this kind of instruction anywhere else can you? I'm really tired of all the namby pamby stuff other pros have weighed me down with in the past, trying to better me swing or whatever. I just want something simple that's going to help me! So I'm really looking forward to having a 3sk lesson... :-)
Also one other question, I want to buy a few copies as Christmas presents... Is the author Joe Hagan able to sign them for me? Perhaps I could pick them up when I organise to come down?
Cheers mate! I'm ready for the 3SK experience! :-D

Is Hersham GC the only place I can get a 3sk lesson? I'm in east Essex and it's a bit of a trek!

I there everyone, Kevin McDonald PGA here and authorised 3sk instructor.
Hope you are all well and that you are all enjoying reading the book.
I know every word in there but I still read it everyday. It is simply very refreshing to read. We coach 3skillsgolf at Hersham Village GC in Surrey at the moment. I definitely recommend a 3sk golf lesson. It is a great experience. If anyone wishes to fly us out to any country across the world (business class of course)
for a 3sk lesson we would be more than happy to oblige.
I'm the guy hitting the shots in the photos of 'Nail It'
Sorry for my baggy trousers.
I only have short legs.
Still hit it quite far though.....well not bad anyway....not as far as some of the arden boys at the gto golf day
Well I wish you all a good night and happy golfing x x x x

I am not the sort of person who is easily impressed with "methods" but I have to say that this 3 Skills approach is incredible!
I bought the book a few weeks ago and worked at the 3 skills. I`m still having problems with the 3rd skill (problems with imagery) but I went out on the course last Sunday and I couldn`t believe how well I was striking the ball. I thought that it might just have been one of those good days so I went out yesterday and today and it`s unbelievable. This system works, end of story! And I don`t work for the company!Last edited by arny660; 10-27-2007, 08:49 AM.

Re: I used the 3 skills and nailed it!
I just got the book a couple of days ago and am looking forward to getting down the range and trying it out - the simple concepts are really attractive in that it doesn't matter how you acheive skills 1, 2 and 3 as long as you get there, and imagine, a physical golf instruction book without a single mention of straight left arms, weight shift or still heads.
I am 14 handicap playing to around 11 at the moment, but having said that, there can't be many people around with similar handicap who's ball striking is so bloody AWFUL (it's all short game and keeping out of trouble with me) my drives go about 200-220yds but at least stay out of the woods, I only hit my 5 iron 150 if I catch it dead right . . . so I am really looking for improvement in that department as I have hit the wall with my game at the moment.
